GO EAST FIELD NOTES

Paying In China

Before your trip to China, prepare a practical combination of mobile payments, bank cards that can be used in China and a small amount of cash as backup.

Mobile payments are widely used across China, but international travellers should always prepare more than one way to pay. A mobile wallet, an international bank card that can be used in China and a small amount of RMB cash will give you reliable backup options throughout your trip.

Prepare before departure

Check with your bank whether your card is enabled for overseas transactions and review any foreign transaction or withdrawal fees. If you plan to use Alipay or WeChat Pay, complete your account verification and card setup before travelling. Keep access to the mobile number linked to your account in case a verification code is required.

Keep a backup

Payment acceptance may vary depending on the merchant, card network and location. Carry a small amount of RMB cash for minor purchases or unexpected service interruptions. It is also advisable to keep a second bank card separate from your main wallet.

Payment safety

Never send your full card number, password or verification code through WhatsApp, email or a general enquiry form. Once Go East offers Stripe checkout, make payments only through the secure payment page linked to your confirmed booking.
